Night Score-O and Search and Destroy-O

Over 60 people came out to the annual night competitions and potluck, including 2 school groups making their first trip out at night. The weather was warm and just a little wet, but at least it wasn’t pouring down rain. Lots of good competition and good food afterwards. The course was designed by Jordan Huelsman, BSA Troop 236, who is earning his Orienteering Merit Badge. Jordan and Ben Bond set the course. Members of the BSA Order of the Arrow helped prepare the K-Lodge and clean up afterward - thank you!
The rules are that you get 1 point for each control punched in the Night Score-O. Then in the Search and Destroy-O, you get 1 point for each control returned (so the meet director does not have to go get them.) This year, 3 controls required a control stand and the stand was worth 1 point (tie breaker is the time you took in the Night Score-O). So if you were quick enough to punch all 20 controls, and you beat everything to untie and bring back all 20 controls plus the stands, there was the potential of 43 total points. Naturally, this did not occur.
In the results grid, if there is a negative number in the # Returned column, it indicates numbers of points taken off for being overtime - 1 point per minute late. Thanks go to Matt Bond who, after the results were announced, went out to retrieve everyone’s favorite control that was still missing, #17.
